Between March 20 and 25, São Paulo host the fourth edition of the Youth Parapan American Games. Venezuela, Colombia and Argentina have already had their chance to host the continent’s leading competition for talented youth athletes, which will now come to Brazil.

Organising the event will be the Brazilian Paralympic Committee, while the games themselves will take place at the Brazilian Paralympic Training Centre – the greatest structural legacy of the Rio 2016 Paralympic Games opened its doors in May of last year.

Around a thousand athletes aged between 13 and 21, from 20 countries, will take place in the São Paulo 2017 Youth Parapan Am. The competition’s schedule includes 12 sports: athletics, boccia, 5-a-side football, 7-a-side football, goalball, judo, powerlifting, sitting volleyball, swimming, table tennis, wheelchair basketball and wheelchair tennis.

Buenos Aires, Argentina, hosted the last edition of the Games in October 2013. The event attracted 631 athletes from 16 countries to compete in 10 sports. Brazil finished first in the overall medals table of the 2013 Parapan with 209 medals, 109 of them gold. The first edition of the Youth Parapan Am took place in 2005 in Barquisimeto, Venezuela, including athletes from 10 countries. In 2009, 14 nations took part in Bogotá, Colombia.
