Accessibility

The São Paulo 2017 Youth Parapan American Games web portal follows accessibility guidelines recommended for browsing.

The term “accessibility” means to include people with disabilities in the participation of activities such as the use of products, services and information. Examples include wheelchair access ramps and bathrooms to accommodate people with physical disabilities.

On the internet, however, accessibility refers mainly to the recommendations made by the WCAG (World Content Accessibility Guide) of the W3C and, in the case of the Brazilian government, the e-MAG (Model of Accessibility in e-Government). The e-MAG is largely in line with international recommendations but establishes accessible behaviour standards for government websites.

At the top of the São Paulo 2017 Portal there is an accessibility bar where visitors can find standardised navigation shortcuts and the option to alter the page’s contrast. These tools are available on all pages of the portal.

The standard keyboard shortcuts established by the federal government are as follows:

Pressing Alt + 1 on any page of the portal will take the user directly to the top of the main content of the page.

Pressing Alt + 2 on any page of the portal will take the user directly to the main menu.

Pressing Alt + 3 on any page of the portal will take the user directly to the internal search function.

On Firefox, instead of Alt + number, press Alt + Shift + number.

On Firefox on Mac OS, instead of Alt + Shift + number, press Ctrl + Alt + number.

On Opera, the keys used are Shift + Esc + number. By pressing only Shift + Esc, the user may access a window with all of the page’s ACCESSKEY alternatives.

At the end of this text, you will be able to download a number of files that explain the term accessibility in more detail and how it should be implemented on the internet.
