The wheelchairs used by the men and women competitors are adapted and standardised according to the rules of the International Wheelchair Basketball Federation (IWBF). Players must bounce, throw or pass the ball after having touched their wheelchair twice. The dimensions of the court and the height of the net are identical to Olympic basketball. Matches involve four quarters of 10 minutes each. In the Youth Parapan Am Games, the men’s event will have five players on each team, while the women’s event will have three players.

In regards to functional classification, athletes are assessed according to their physical-motor impairment on a scale of 1 to 4.5, varying by a half point each team. Athletes with more severe disabilities receive a lower class number. The sum of these numbers for any given team must not exceed 14.
