Age at the Youth Parapan Am Games: 12-18 years

The similarities between wheelchair tennis and conventional tennis are many, however wheelchair tennis allows for the ball to bounce twice, meaning each player must hit the ball across the net before it bounces a third time. The wheelchairs used are specially designed, with wheels adapted to give better balance and mobility. The rackets and balls are identical to those used in conventional tennis.

The only requirement for competing in a wheelchair is to have been medically diagnosed with a movement-related disability. In other words, the athlete must have either complete or partial functional loss of one of more of his/her extremities. If as a result, the player is incapable of taking part in conventional tennis tournaments, moving around the court at an adequate speed, they will be permitted to participate in wheelchair tennis tournaments.
